Senior Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse Developer – Truworths Careers

Truworths is seeking a highly skilled Senior Business Intelligence/Data Warehouse Developer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-level data warehouses that deliver actionable insights across the business. This role requires close collaboration with stakeholders and team members to provide robust BI, ETL, and reporting solutions that support various business units in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Champion Business Intelligence (BI) and Data Warehouse (DW) architecture, ensuring data quality, integrity, and reliability.
• Contribute to and grow architectural forums within the BI team.
• Design and implement data models (dimensional, multi-dimensional, and relational).
• Develop and maintain ETL architecture and processes, including process automation.
• Perform PL/SQL coding and report development.
• Promote self-service BI solutions and optimise IT and business processes.
• Integrate data between legacy and modern systems.
• Interface with users to capture specifications and produce ad-hoc scripts to support queries.
• Manage batch processes and scheduling.
• Participate in agile documentation, design, peer, and code reviews.
• Provide technical, functional, and operational support for existing BI solutions.
• Contribute to evolving the architecture to modern platforms, on-premise and/or cloud.

Qualifications and Experience

• BSc or BCom in Information Systems, IT/IS Diploma, or substantial experience in a Data Warehousing/BI environment.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in data warehousing and ETL development.
• Strong architectural mindset with experience in data and report modeling.
• Retail systems experience advantageous.
• Experience with batch processing and scheduling.
• Ability to document technical requirements from business briefs and maintain strong business user relationships.

Competencies

Technical Skills

• Enterprise Data Warehousing (Kimball Method), data modeling, and design.
• ETL tools such as SSIS, IBM DataStage, Informatica, ODI, or similar.
• PL/SQL or T-SQL scripting and optimization.
• IT/business process engineering and report development.
• Agile methodology experience (SCRUM).

Advantageous Skills

• Oracle Database 11g/12c/19c, Oracle OBIEE, Power BI.
• Control-M, Microsoft SQL Server services (SSAS, SSIS), Oracle ESSBASE.
• SAS Viya, low-code development (Oracle APEX, Power Apps), Power Query, M Language, DAX.
• Experience with real-time data processing/streaming (JSON, MongoDB, Kafka).
• Exposure to merchandise, retail, financial, and CRM systems.
