Data Engineer – Centre of Insights and Analytics | DSV Vacancies

Main Purpose of the Role
The Data Engineer forms part of the SCO team and is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining reliable and scalable data pipelines that support business intelligence, analytics, and data-driven decision-making. The role works closely with the Supply Chain Analyst team to understand data requirements, optimize workflows, and ensure high standards of data quality, security, and performance. The position includes hands-on implementation, detailed documentation, and post-implementation client support.

Tertiary Qualification

  • University degree or college diploma in IT or a related field

Computer Literacy Level

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Additional Computer Skills

  • Experience with ETL tools, with MS SSIS required
  • Proficiency in BI and data visualization tools, with Power BI preferred
  • Exposure to QlikView, Tableau, or similar platforms

Job Related Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with MS SQL, including complex query writing and optimization
  • 4–5 years’ advanced database querying experience
  • Strong expertise in building and maintaining data pipelines, models, and ETL/ELT architectures
  • Proficient in SQL and working with relational and non-relational databases
  • Solid understanding of infrastructure components and the Windows operating system
  • Experience optimizing data storage and processing for large-scale datasets
  • Familiarity with system monitoring, alerting, and logging tools
  • Good understanding of software development lifecycle principles
  • Ability to identify inefficiencies and drive process standardization
  • Strong commitment to data accuracy, consistency, and completeness
  • Valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and willingness to travel nationally and work extended hours when required

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support inventory optimization and data solutions for clients
  • Develop scalable, standardized, and supportable technical solutions
  • Build, optimize, and maintain ETL/ELT processes for internal and external data sources
  • Implement data quality controls, validation checks, and governance standards
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve data pipeline and performance issues in real time
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver effective data solutions
  • Document data flows, processes, and technical decisions for transparency and maintainability
  • Design and optimize data models to support reporting and advanced analytics
  • Improve query performance and data storage efficiency for large datasets
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks within data processing pipelines
  • Promote teamwork and knowledge sharing within the analytics team
  • Ensure full compliance with data privacy, security, and governance standards
