About the Program
Value Logistics is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to perform maintenance, repairs, and inspections on commercial vehicles, ensuring they meet manufacturer standards and are safe, reliable, and roadworthy.
Purpose of the Job
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for conducting all maintenance and repair work as per the Value job card, including visual inspections, diagnostic checks, and part replacements, while maintaining high standards of safety, professionalism, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct visual inspections and on-board diagnostics during pre-diagnosis
- Review workshop job cards for accuracy and completeness
- Ensure adherence to flat rates for repairs
- Attend to breakdowns during office hours and after hours
- Sign off completed job cards accurately
- Book all parts used on the job card, including engine oils and consumables
- Prepare service bays with required tools and parts for maintenance and repairs
- Perform all maintenance and repair work according to manufacturer specifications and scheduled maintenance programs
- Conduct visual inspections, calibrations, and adjustments as required
- Identify deviations, unusual wear, or damage and report to the Workshop Foreman
- Reset maintenance systems and internal processes after work completion
- Inspect, dismantle, and recondition parts where applicable; replace with new or reconditioned components as needed
- Return unusable parts to suppliers and document work performed
- Assess vehicle condition against production standards and evaluate technical reliability
- Conduct final checks using testing and measuring equipment to confirm repairs are complete and vehicles are roadworthy
- Maintain professional conduct and represent the company positively
- Support operational functions as required
- Adhere to company dress code and Standard Operating Procedures
- Maintain daily housekeeping and ensure Health and Safety standards are upheld
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Trade-tested commercial vehicle Diesel Technician

- Ability to apply technical techniques and strategies effectively
- Interpret customer usage patterns to inform maintenance decisions
- Apply business principles within own work environment
- Engage directly with customers regarding own work area
- Implement basic Health and Safety procedures relevant to daily operations
- Identify and manage hazards under direct supervision
