About the Program

Purpose of the Job
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for performing all maintenance and repair work on commercial vehicles according to the Value job card, ensuring vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and meet company standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct visual inspections and onboard diagnostics during pre-diagnosis
  • Review workshop job cards for accuracy and clarity
  • Ensure flat rates for repairs are adhered to
  • Attend to breakdowns during office hours and after hours
  • Sign off completed job cards
  • Book all parts used, including engine oils, to the job card
  • Prepare equipment and parts for service bay operations
  • Perform maintenance and repairs according to manufacturer specifications and maintenance schedules
  • Carry out visual inspections, calibrations, adjustments, and other necessary checks
  • Identify deviations, unusual wear, or damage and report to the Workshop Foreman
  • Reset maintenance systems and process dismantled parts for return or reconditioning
  • Inspect, replace, or recondition parts as needed
  • Document all work and return unusable parts appropriately
  • Evaluate the technical condition of vehicles against standard configurations
  • Perform final checks using testing and measuring equipment to ensure repair quality and vehicle reliability
  • Maintain professional conduct and adherence to company standards
  • Support operational functions as required
  • Comply with company dress code and maintain workplace housekeeping standards
  • Follow Health and Safety procedures consistently

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Trade-tested Commercial Vehicle Diesel Technician

Skills Required

  • Apply appropriate techniques to maintain a positive work environment
  • Interpret customer usage patterns for maintenance purposes
  • Apply basic business principles to own work area
  • Handle customer interactions related to own functions
  • Identify hazards and follow direct instructions to address them
  • Implement basic Health and Safety procedures under supervision
