Job Description
The General Assistant provides comprehensive customer service within the store while supporting merchandising, shelf price labelling, and housekeeping in the assigned area of responsibility. The role ensures a safe, well-presented, and customer-friendly shopping environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 or NQF Level 3 with at least 1 year relevant work experience, or

  • Grade 12 with no prior work experience

  • Ability to communicate in English and the dominant local language

  • Valid South African ID or valid work permit

  • Ability to perform basic calculations accurately

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure

Key Performance Areas

Customer Service

  • Advise and assist customers with product selection and enquiries

  • Assist with resolving customer complaints promptly and professionally

Merchandising Standards

  • Merchandise bulk stock safely in line with the store layout plan

  • Ensure the assigned area is fully merchandised according to approved layouts and planograms

Housekeeping

  • Keep the area of responsibility free from obstacles and hazards

  • Merchandise stock immediately after receipt

  • Ensure customers can move safely and comfortably through aisles

  • Maintain accurate shelf price labelling within the assigned area

  • Complete required checklists, including canteen and ablution schedules

Safety (OHSA)

  • Comply with OHSA requirements within the area of responsibility

  • Use required safety gear and ensure customer and staff safety

  • Ensure racking and bulk stock are merchandised safely

  • Report any safety discrepancies to the Store Manager

Stock Loss Control

  • Identify and report damaged stock within the area of responsibility to the Store Manager
