Role Summary
Measured Ability Group is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Bookkeeper to oversee financial, HR, and administrative operations for a fast-growing professional practice in Cape Town. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities independently. This role involves optimizing existing systems, improving financial reporting, and ensuring compliance while working closely with the Director.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–10 years of bookkeeping, accounting, or practice management experience in a professional services environment.
  • Proficiency in PM Pro / Legalinteract, Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or Winlaw.
  • Strong knowledge of SARS regulations, PAYE, VAT, Trust Accounts, and South African labour law.
  • Experience in HR and compliance management, including FICA regulations.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time-management abilities.
  • High integrity and experience handling confidential information.

Key Responsibilities

Bookkeeping & Financial Management

  • Maintain accurate financial records and systems.
  • Manage accounts payable, receivable, invoicing, and payments.
  • Implement financial controls and oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow.
  • Ensure timely SARS submissions (PAYE, VAT, etc.) and compliance.
  • Process payroll, commissions, and staff reimbursements.
  • Prepare financial reports, trial balances, and reconciliations.
  • Assist with trust audits and annual tax submissions.

HR & Compliance

  • Maintain employee records and ensure HR compliance.
  • Track leave, attendance, and performance.
  • Ensure adherence to FICA and risk management procedures.

Administration & Reporting

  • Oversee office administration and external stakeholder communications.
  • Generate operational and financial reports (weekly, monthly, annually).
  • Manage fixed asset registers, insurance, and LPC compliance.
