Logistics Engineer – DSV Vacancies
Main Purpose of the Role
The Logistics Engineer is responsible for evaluating and analyzing data, processes, and material flow in existing operations to identify improvement opportunities. This role implements initiatives, monitors their quantitative benefits, and develops business cases for financial investments including ROI calculations, productivity improvements, and value creation. The Logistics Engineer works closely with cross-functional client teams on new projects, product launches, continuous improvement initiatives, and automation or mechanization projects. Training and mentoring junior engineers and staff in Lean, Six Sigma, and change management principles is also a key responsibility.
Basic Minimum Requirement
- Matric or equivalent
Tertiary Qualification
- Essential: B.Eng / B.Tech in Industrial Engineering or similar NQF Level 7 qualification or higher
Computer Literacy Level
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Additional Computer Skills
- MS Visio
- MS Project
- Data analytics experience
- AutoCAD / Autodesk Inventor
- Power BI (beneficial)
- Minitab (beneficial)
- SAP (beneficial)
Job-Related Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ engineering and warehouse experience
- Minimum 1 year working in an automotive environment
- Industrial Engineering experience in logistics: 3+ years
- Advanced Excel and intermediate AutoCAD skills (1+ year experience)
- Experience in warehouse design, costing, and general logistics operations
- Experience with Lean / CIP methodology and change management
- Experience with MTM and project management
- Resource planning and supply chain process improvement experience
- Ability to train staff across all levels (white-collar and blue-collar)
- High work rate, attention to detail, and quality focus
- Customer relationship management experience (1+ year)
- Willingness to travel within South Africa if required

Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead continuous improvement projects using CIP and other IE methodologies (5S, Lean, TOC, etc.)
- Drive cross-functional teams to implement process, layout, and automation improvements
- Analyze operations including receiving, issuing, picking, kitting, sequencing, slotting, and benchmarking
- Use data to identify improvement opportunities and monitor quantitative benefits
- Develop business cases for process changes, automation, and mechanization projects
- Plan, schedule, and manage project timelines, milestones, and objectives
- Conduct training and coaching sessions on Lean, Six Sigma, and problem-solving techniques
- Determine headcount requirements using MTM methodology and monitor staffing needs across operations
- Implement and support automation and mechanization initiatives in warehouses
- Manage junior, graduate, intern, and student logistics engineers, providing guidance and mentorship
- Contribute actively to client initiatives and continuous improvement programs
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and attention to detail in all deliverables
- Maintain professionalism and strong client and supplier relationships
- Work independently, meeting deadlines with minimal supervision while remaining highly organized
