Minimum Requirements
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a deli or retail food environment
- 1–2 years’ supervisory experience
- Experience with retail systems and reporting tools such as SAP or similar platforms
- Proven ability to analyse data and identify root causes of stock variances
- Computer literacy

Key Responsibilities
Merchandising and Stock Management
- Execute plano guides in full compliance with merchandising standards
- Conduct regular quality checks and ensure products are handled according to SOPs
- Ensure the department is ready for trade by store opening
- Identify fast-selling lines and evaluate opportunities for margin improvement and increased sales
- Maintain adequate stock levels to meet customer demand while minimising waste
- Implement promotional activities in line with the promotional calendar
- Keep storage and back-up areas organised and compliant with standards
- Manage stock rotation, sell-by dates, and FIFO practices across all areas
- Maintain merchandising and cleanliness standards throughout trading hours
Food Safety, Hygiene and Compliance
- Enforce strict hygiene, housekeeping, and food safety standards
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements
- Implement and monitor cleaning schedules and sanitation procedures
- Identify and address non-conformances with effective corrective actions
Customer Service
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer queries and requests
- Manage out-of-stock situations by offering alternatives and providing delivery updates
- Ensure equipment is operational and the department remains customer-ready
Staff Management
- Communicate priorities, targets, and operational updates to the team
- Delegate tasks and monitor performance effectively
- Promote accountability and adherence to SOPs
- Address non-compliance with procedures, policies, and legislation
- Share key information with the team from management meetings
- Review and adjust staff scheduling to meet operational requirements
Administration and Performance Management
- Monitor waste, turnover, and stock variances, implementing corrective actions when necessary
- Identify barriers to achieving sales targets and introduce improvement initiatives
- Ensure all shelf-edge labels are accurate, updated, and clearly visible
- Maintain equipment and ensure proper maintenance standards
Systems and Reporting
- Conduct gap scanning and manage out-of-stock and overstock reports
- Generate and analyse reports using SAP or similar systems
- Communicate stock concerns to demand planning teams
- Process inventory transfers, waste management, and clearance activities in line with SOPs
- Monitor electronic communications regularly throughout the trading day
