Job Purpose
The Rigger Chargehand is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising rigging activities, ensuring safe and efficient deck operations, and supporting the Fittershop Foreman in managing vessel operations. This role involves directing the rigging team, coordinating with crane operators, and overseeing the lifting and placement of mechanical components on the quay and deck.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the rigging crew to ensure smooth and safe operations.
- Assist the Fittershop Foreman in maintaining safe work conditions on vessels.
- Provide clear instructions and coordinate with the Crane Operator for lifting and positioning components.
- Rig vessel engines, pumps, and other heavy equipment onto the deck.
- Conduct safety checks, toolbox talks, and ensure compliance with HSE protocols.
- Advise workshop team members on essential tools and instruments required for tasks.
Required Experience
- Proven experience as a Rigger Chargehand.
- 4–5 years of rigging experience in marine or industrial settings.
- Trade Test Qualification.
Knowledge and Competencies
- Strong understanding of HSE (health, safety, environmental) standards and protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments.
- Proficiency in rigging techniques, including lifting, hoisting, and securing loads.
- Knowledge of mechanical aspects of marine components and systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team coordination skills.
