Senior Manager – Job Description

  • Develop and implement a multi-year training strategy aligned with business priorities and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Oversee L&D frameworks and policies, ensuring quality, compliance, and alignment with long-term organisational goals
  • Lead organisation-wide capability reviews to identify workforce risks and readiness for transformation
  • Provide leadership and oversight of the L&D strategy, ensuring initiatives meet current and future talent needs
  • Consolidate skills gap analyses into long-term workforce and succession strategies
  • Ensure learning and development programmes are aligned to organisational transformation and capability objectives
  • Partner with business leaders to address current and emerging capability gaps
  • Guide the design and governance of leadership, technical, and soft skills programmes for consistent quality and impact
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning through blended learning, digital platforms, coaching, and mentoring
  • Manage the Learning Management System (LMS) for content relevance, accessibility, and user engagement
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, industry, and professional regulatory training requirements (e.g., aviation, safety, occupational health)
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and accreditation authorities to maintain valid and up-to-date programmes
  • Monitor training compliance, addressing risks and gaps proactively
  • Standardise and document training practices to meet audit requirements
  • Deliver timely and comprehensive training reports, including training hours, completion rates, costs vs. budget, ROI, and impact metrics
  • Ensure 100% accuracy of training data, providing trend analysis and actionable insights for workforce planning
  • Develop dashboards highlighting key trends, compliance rates, skills gaps, and L&D effectiveness for senior leadership
  • Translate training data into strategic recommendations incorporated into HR/OD plans
  • Establish training governance frameworks, policies, and systems that meet business and regulatory expectations
  • Implement evaluation mechanisms to measure ROI, learning effectiveness, and compliance outcomes
  • Ensure training providers and facilitators meet professional and ethical standards
  • Manage the Training budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness, ROI, and alignment to priorities
  • Negotiate and manage vendor and provider relationships strategically
  • Champion learning innovation, including AI-driven learning, digital platforms, predictive analytics, and skills marketplaces
  • Lead and develop a high-performing training team across L&D and regulatory training portfolios
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to deliver integrated training solutions
  • Advise senior leadership on talent and compliance risks related to training gaps

Senior Manager – Job Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or related field
  • Honours degree in relevant field or Business Leadership
  • ETDP SETA accreditation (advantageous)
  • Master’s degree in relevant field or Business Leadership (advantageous)
  • 10–12 years’ relevant experience in a mid-sized organisation, with at least 5 years in aviation training
  • Minimum 5 years’ managerial experience
  • Proven experience in developing and managing soft skills training across departments
  • Proven experience in managing aviation regulatory training
  • Excellent knowledge of CATs, CARs, SACAA regulations, and company policies
  • Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures and educational/training techniques
  • Experience with aviation training systems
