About the Program
FlySafair is seeking an experienced Technical Service Specialist to support the engineering team in maintaining the reliability and performance of the airline’s fleet engines. The role focuses on engine performance monitoring, maintenance planning, and ensuring compliance with aviation regulations and airworthiness standards.
Job Description
The Technical Service Specialist will play a key role in monitoring engine performance, supporting maintenance planning, and ensuring the reliability of fleet engines. Responsibilities include:
- Perform engine trend monitoring for the CFM56 engine series.
- Manage leased engines to ensure full compliance with airworthiness requirements, including Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), and modification status.
- Plan and coordinate module changes to support operational efficiency and maintenance requirements.
- Develop and manage repair schedules for both owned and leased engines.
- Provide technical expertise in fault analysis and support maintenance teams in resolving recurring technical issues.
- Ensure engine maintenance practices support the overall reliability and performance of the fleet.
- Conduct detailed analysis of fleet engine performance and prepare engineering planning documentation, including engineering orders for preventative maintenance.
- Monitor and manage the cost-effectiveness of the engine maintenance program.
- Conduct engine performance forecasting for technical, operational, and economic analysis.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (Essential).
- Relevant aviation engineering license (Essential).
- Minimum of 10 years post-qualification experience in the aviation industry, specifically with CFM56 engine series (Essential).
- At least 5 years of experience within aviation engineering with strong knowledge of aircraft components and experience on aircraft types operated by Safair (Essential).
- Formal training and practical experience working with CFM56 engines.
- Willingness to work overtime when operational requirements demand it.
- Extensive knowledge of aviation regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
- Strong understanding of aircraft engine technical documentation, manufacturer manuals, and engineering data.
- Knowledge or experience using Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) systems (Advantageous).
- Previous experience with engine trend analysis (Preferred).
- Borescope inspection experience (Advantageous).
