Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking Trainee Managers to join their East London stores. This role is part of a strategic talent pool, designed to prepare skilled and qualified individuals for future management opportunities within the company.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • 1–2 years’ experience in retail management disciplines, including stock management, cash handling, reporting, expense control, and customer service

  • Computer literate – MS Office

  • Willing and able to work retail hours

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Own reliable transport

Advantageous

  • Diploma in Financial, Administration, or a relevant 3-year Diploma

Job Specification

Inventory Management

  • Process goods in transit, cycle counts, stock takes, and manage shrinkage

  • Maintain accurate stock levels and ensure efficient stock flow to the sales floor

  • Support ordering of FMCG, Health, and Beauty products to maintain stock levels

Sales Floor & Receiving

  • Assist in planning, implementing, and maintaining promotional stock displays

  • Ensure adherence to labeling, pricing, and layout standards

  • Support goods receiving duties according to standard operating procedures

  • Maintain transaction integrity for incoming goods receipts and outgoing returns

  • Assist with daily reconciliation of ZMove Packs

Sales Targets

  • Support achieving store sales targets across FMCG, Health, and Beauty

  • Collaborate with heads of departments to meet objectives

  • Assist in executing promotions and coordinating with other stores for best practices

  • Monitor market trends and competitor activity

  • Support development of strategies to increase market share, store traffic, and profitability

Point of Sale Operations & Finance

  • Assist with daily cash-ups, reconciliation, and documentation

  • Support scheduling and efficiency at point of sale

  • Monitor store expenses and stock adjustments to GL accounts

  • Assist with financial analysis, transaction integrity, and accuracy of branch transactions

  • Support improvement of cashier service levels, productivity, and control of overtime

  • Assist in audits and reporting requirements

Customer Service

  • Support prompt resolution of customer complaints and compliments

  • Ensure the customer request system is operational and actioned daily

  • Promote and report on loyalty signups

  • Assist with accurate processing of loyalty points

  • Provide feedback to customers regarding queries and complaints

HR Process Support

  • Assist with HR administration, including leave, scheduling, and staff file management

  • Facilitate HR processes and documentation in compliance with procedures

  • Support the execution of workforce management system (KRONOS) transactions

  • Assist in delivery of HR policies and training programs and collect feedback

Trainee Programme Adherence

  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and learning opportunities

  • Assist managers with assigned tasks for on-the-job learning

  • Complete all required learning programs and assessments

  • Maintain Portfolio of Evidence and ensure sign-off with Regional Admin Manager

Competencies

Essential

  • Knowledge of retail store management disciplines with retail admin experience

  • Ability to analyze situations, evaluate options, and make informed decisions

  • Follow business guidelines, regulations, principles, and standards

  • Effective communication and active listening skills

  • Emotional intelligence, conflict management, and counseling skills

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
