Tyre Maintenance Controller – Value Logistics

Purpose of the Job
The Tyre Maintenance Controller is responsible for travelling to various operational sites to perform routine tyre maintenance, tyre surveys, and breakdown support for the company fleet. The role ensures that all fleet tyres are maintained according to company standards, supporting vehicle safety, operational efficiency, and accurate tyre management records.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Control

• Ensure tyre stock is always secured and stored safely
• Assist with daily investigations and reporting of stock discrepancies
• Support monthly cycle counts of tyre inventory

Tyre Surveys

• Travel to operational sites as required
• Prioritise tyre inspections and maintenance using the fleet list provided by the supervisor
• Conduct daily tyre surveys using the designated tyre management software and maintain manual records when systems are offline
• Capture accurate tyre data including brand numbers, wheel positions, tyre pressure, and tread depth readings
• Ensure all vehicles are inspected and tyre pressures are checked and corrected monthly
• Inspect spare wheels and report any missing spares to the supervisor
• Mark spare wheel rims with red paint for easy identification
• Ensure wheel nuts are correctly torqued and wheel nut indicators are installed
• Install missing wheel nut indicators when required
• Photograph scrap tyres and submit records to the supervisor
• Provide regular feedback to the supervisor regarding surveyed vehicles, tyre issues identified, and outstanding inspections

Tyre Branding

• Report tyres without brand numbers to the supervisor
• Brand tyres according to the provided listing

Tyre Replacement

• Identify and replace worn, punctured, or damaged tyres in accordance with company procedures
• Complete tyre change documentation accurately and promptly
• Submit tyre change records daily to the supervisor

Tyre Rotations

• Perform tyre rotations based on matching tread patterns
• Complete and submit tyre change documentation for all rotations

Breakdown Support

• Ensure the breakdown support vehicle is equipped with the correct tyre sizes and quantities
• Respond promptly to tyre-related breakdowns at operational sites
• Prioritise breakdown assistance while adhering to road safety regulations
• Complete breakdown reports and tyre change documentation for removed and installed tyres
• Return damaged or punctured tyres to the depot and submit related documentation to the supervisor

Company Equipment and Asset Management

• Secure tyre maintenance tablets when not in use and at the end of each shift
• Conduct daily vehicle inspections and submit completed checklists to the supervisor
• Ensure vehicles are parked safely and locked when not in use
• Hand vehicle keys to the supervisor for secure storage after each shift
• Report any vehicle accidents or damage immediately
• Ensure all tools and equipment remain in good working condition
• Submit weekly tyre bay tool inspection checklists
• Report defective tools to the supervisor promptly

Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean and organised work environment and company vehicle at all times

Health and Safety

• Follow all safety procedures when performing tyre maintenance tasks
• Ensure the correct personal protective equipment is worn at all times
• Report health and safety hazards or near-miss incidents immediately

General Responsibilities

• Comply with all company procedures and policies including operational procedures, HR policies, data protection policies, dress code, smoking regulations, and attendance requirements
• Assist with additional operational tasks when required
• Be available to work weekends when operational needs require

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Code B Driver’s License
• 1 to 2 years of heavy-duty tyre maintenance experience
• Physically capable of lifting heavy objects and performing manual tasks
