Purpose of the Role
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and controlling the end-to-end picking process and inventory management within the warehouse. This role leads a team of permanent and outsourced pickers to ensure accurate, efficient, and timely order fulfillment. The position focuses on maintaining discipline, driving productivity, enforcing system-driven processes, and supporting the overall warehouse operation to deliver reliable and cost-effective service.
Key Responsibilities
• Operations Management
• Supervise, guide, and support both permanent and outsourced picking staff
• Maintain a disciplined, efficient, and well-controlled working environment
• Conduct daily team check-ins to monitor progress, productivity, and challenges
• Ensure all picking activities follow established processes and warehouse standards
• Verify that system-driven picking is followed and stock is selected from correct locations
• Perform random accuracy checks to ensure correct items and quantities are picked
• Monitor and ensure productivity targets are consistently achieved
• Coordinate with warehouse planners to align picking with dispatch schedules
• Ensure orders are picked on time to avoid delays and service disruptions
• Monitor warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and scanners to ensure functionality
• Ensure all administrative processes within the picking area are properly followed
• Provide daily reports on productivity, accuracy, delays, and operational challenges
• Maintain accurate records of staff performance and process deviations
• Warehouse Supervision
• Lead, train, and motivate the picking team to achieve performance targets
• Enforce company policies, procedures, and disciplinary standards
• Conduct regular team meetings and toolbox talks to drive continuous improvement
• Reporting and Documentation
• Prepare daily and weekly reports on productivity, accuracy, and inventory status
• Track key performance indicators including order accuracy, picking timelines, and stock discrepancies
• Maintain proper documentation to support audits and compliance requirements
• Health and Safety Compliance
• Ensure full compliance with occupational health and safety standards
• Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions where necessary
• Promote a safe working environment for all staff
• Housekeeping
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment at all times
• Ensure aisles, picking zones, and storage areas are free from obstructions and hazards
• Implement and enforce daily housekeeping routines
• Monitor adherence to hygiene and safety standards, including waste management
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and resolve cleanliness or safety issues
• Ensure tools, equipment, and PPE are stored correctly and maintained in good condition
Minimum Requirements
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field (preferred)
• Experience in warehouse picking operations
• Previous supervisory or team leader experience
Skills and Competencies
• Strong leadership and people management skills
• Knowledge of warehouse management systems and inventory control practices
• Proficiency in MS Office applications
• Good numerical and literacy skills
• Strong planning and organizational abilities
