About the Role
The Employee Relations Specialist plays a key role in fostering a fair, compliant, and positive workplace by managing employee relations matters, providing expert labour relations guidance, and supporting managers in the consistent application of disciplinary and grievance processes.

Job Description
As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating employee grievances, counselling, and conflict resolution in a timely and effective manner.
  • Taking a proactive approach to conflict management and ensuring adherence to grievance and disciplinary procedures.
  • Providing expert guidance to management on appropriate disciplinary action, ensuring fairness, consistency, and legal compliance.
  • Investigating employee concerns and recommending appropriate courses of action.
  • Supporting the development, interpretation, and application of internal policies relating to conduct, discipline, and grievance management.
  • Partnering with HR and departmental managers to manage disciplinary processes, including documentation, investigations, scheduling, and participation in hearings.
  • Representing the organisation at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) and similar forums.
  • Supporting HR and line managers with CCMA case preparation and dispute resolution strategies.
  • Monitoring legal and regulatory developments to ensure compliance with employment legislation, collective agreements, and relevant case law.
  • Delivering internal training to managers and employees on employee relations topics, including policies, legislation, and disciplinary processes.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective resolution of ER matters.
  • Reviewing, drafting, and updating company policies and procedures in line with current labour legislation and best practice.
  • Providing accurate interpretation of labour laws and ensuring consistent application across the business.
  • Promoting awareness and compliance with company policies, labour legislation, and collective agreements.
  • Conducting research and providing recommendations based on changes in employment law and recent court rulings.

Job Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Labour Relations or a related field is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Employee Relations, Industrial Relations, or Labour Law advisory roles.
  • Proven experience managing disciplinary processes and representing organisations at CCMA.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
