About the Program
Value Logistics is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to oversee workshop operations, maximise productivity, ensure customer satisfaction, and drive profitability through efficient resource management and staff development.
Purpose of the Job
The Workshop Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of workshop operations, including staff supervision, work planning, customer service, asset management, financial control, and quality assurance to achieve operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Management
- Manage staff attendance, productivity, and efficiency
- Supervise and coach staff to maintain a customer-focused environment
- Enforce adherence to dress code and PPE requirements
- Identify training needs and develop staff
- Conduct performance appraisals and regular feedback sessions
- Hold frequent staff meetings to review progress and address concerns
Workshop Operations, Capacity Planning & WIP
- Plan daily work in progress (WIP) and monitor workshop productivity
- Coordinate with Service Advisors and Parts department to ensure parts availability
- Ensure all vehicles are serviced according to OE schedules and standards
- Optimise utilisation of workshop resources for smooth operations
Customer Service Levels
- Keep internal and external customers updated on vehicle progress
- Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally
Workshop Administration
- Ensure accurate Embrace data input including hour readings, job dates, fault codes, and job types
- Adhere to all administration SOPs
- Manage accurate costing and closing of job cards
- Ensure all supporting documents are attached to job cards
- Coordinate handover of job cards to filing
- Request and process quotations from suppliers for outsourced or outwork jobs
- Sign off job cards and ensure recoveries are invoiced correctly
Reporting
- Pull and review open job card and purchase order reports daily
- Investigate discrepancies and report WIP to management
- Submit all required management reports on time
Asset Management
- Manage and maintain all company assets
- Report any asset losses or damages
- Ensure asset disposal follows SOPs and approval processes
Recoveries & Warranty Claims
- Ensure accurate processing of recoveries and warranty claims
Financials & Budget
- Manage workshop operations cost-effectively within budget
- Report on profit and loss as required
Quality Standards
- Maintain proper tools and equipment for all jobs
- Conduct regular spot checks to ensure service standards are met
Apprentice Programme
- Manage and oversee the national apprentice programme for all workshops
General
- Maintain professional conduct and adherence to company SOPs
- Support relevant operational functions as required
- Ensure daily housekeeping and Health & Safety standards are upheld
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- 3–5 years’ experience in Workshop or Field Service Management
- Diesel Mechanic qualification advantageous
