About the Role
Dischem Vacancies is inviting applications for the Dispensary Support Talent Pool to join our teams across various stores. This programme targets learners who are committed to completing the Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. It provides practical, on-the-job training in pharmaceutical operations and dispensing, ensuring high-quality learning experiences.

Candidates will be employed in a fixed-term capacity as Dispensary Support while completing the required training and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Permanent employment may be offered once the learner qualifies and registers as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Minimum Requirements

Essential

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • Pure Mathematics with at least 50%
  • Life Science and/or Physical Science with an average of at least 50%

Key Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete a proficiency assessment to apply for registration with the SAPC as a learner basic pharmacist assistant
  • Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under the direct supervision of a pharmacist
  • Support the preparation, compounding, or manipulation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures
  • Assist with unpacking stock, merchandising shelves, and maintaining dispensary and OTC cleanliness
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager
  • Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately while complying with legal and professional pharmacy requirements
  • Ensure precise picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication, understanding common dosages and important drug interactions
  • Ensure all medications are verified and signed off by a pharmacist
  • Assist with stock management, including shelf organisation, cleanliness, and monitoring expiry dates of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines
  • Follow up with patients on prescription tracking and scheduled appointments as directed by the dispensary manager
  • Support call centre prescription services and patient telephone queries
  • Provide health-related information to customers to promote wellness
  • Assist with scheme authorisation for chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication
  • Report low or out-of-stock items and stock errors to the Dispensary Manager
  • Receive and manage dispensary stock in accordance with company SOPs

Advantageous

  • Experience in Retail FMCG or Dischem front shop with a strong performance record
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning products and complementary medicine
  • Ability to speak a third language
  • Experience with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting systems
