Key Account Manager, Air & Sea – DSV Vacancies

Main Purpose of the Role
The Key Account Manager is responsible for growing and maintaining strong business partnerships with new and existing customers, identifying opportunities to add value, and developing tailored solutions to enhance client satisfaction and loyalty.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ freight forwarding experience, including client-facing roles
  • Proven track record in logistical sales
  • Strong business writing skills
  • Financial experience including rates, estimates, debtors, and client rate management
  • Own vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • Excellent time management and ability to work after hours when required
  • Fluent in English and Afrikaans, both written and verbal

Qualifications

  • Matric (essential)
  • Preferred: B.Com in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or equivalent industry experience with on-the-job training

Computer Packages

  • Office 365 (Teams, OneNote, Forms), MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple clients throughout the client lifecycle
  • Maintain Executive Sponsor relationships with client contacts
  • Create and update client information packs
  • Oversee account opening processes and maintain client data
  • Lead contract negotiations and mitigate identified risks
  • Present and implement DSV products, processes, and strategies to clients
  • Manage client queries and ensure prompt resolution
  • Review estimates for accuracy and timely submission
  • Compile client-specific business reports and ensure data integrity
  • Identify growth opportunities within client accounts
  • Record at-risk and lost accounts in CRM
  • Monitor service level agreements, report exceptions, and recommend corrective actions
  • Facilitate rate negotiations and adjustments
  • Develop and track customer action plans
  • Report quantified value delivered to clients
  • Take meeting minutes and ensure follow-through on action items
  • Manage client debtors and ensure compliance with agreed payment terms
  • Ensure SOPs are signed, documented, and maintained
  • Ensure compliance with client health, safety, and environmental requirements
  • Prepare monthly revenue reports and coordinate logistics training for clients

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge of accounts and international freight forwarding across all transport modes
  • Sales training (PSS, Lions, or similar)
  • Experience with rate increases and implementation
  • Administration experience or training
  • Presentation experience
  • Target-driven, self-motivated, and professional
  • Strong interpersonal, numeracy, administration, and communication skills
  • Ability to liaise effectively with clients and colleagues at all levels
  • Strong time management, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing environments and technologies
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage workflow and operational challenges
  • Leadership skills, including motivating teams and addressing performance issues
  • Client-focused with empathy and effective communication
