Warehouse Supervisor

Purpose of the Job
The Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for managing and overseeing the end-to-end picking process and inventory control within the warehouse. This role supervises a team of permanent and outsourced pickers, ensuring adherence to processes, achieving productivity targets, and delivering accurate and timely customer orders. The position ensures safety, compliance, and operational efficiency while supporting the broader warehouse team to provide a reliable and cost-effective service.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

• Supervise, guide, and support both permanent and outsourced pickers.
• Maintain a controlled, disciplined, and efficient working environment.
• Conduct daily check-ins with staff to monitor progress, productivity, and challenges.
• Ensure all picking follows agreed processes and warehouse standards.
• Verify system-driven picking and correct stock selection from designated bays.
• Perform random accuracy checks (item vs. quantity) to maintain high picking accuracy.
• Ensure picking output meets required productivity targets.
• Collaborate with warehouse planners to align picking with dispatch schedules.
• Ensure timely completion of picking to prevent delays, additional transport costs, and customer service issues.
• Monitor equipment such as pallet jacks and handheld scanners to ensure proper functionality.
• Ensure all administrative processes within the picking area are followed accurately.
• Report daily on productivity, progress, challenges, and accuracy levels.
• Maintain accurate records of staff performance and process deviations.

Warehouse Supervision

• Lead, train, and motivate picking staff.
• Enforce company policies, Health & Safety regulations, and disciplinary procedures.
• Conduct regular team meetings, toolbox talks, and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

Reporting & Documentation

• Prepare daily and weekly reports on productivity, accuracy, and inventory.
• Track KPIs including order accuracy, picking timelines, and stock discrepancies.
• Maintain documentation for compliance with internal and external audits.

Health & Safety Compliance

• Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety standards.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.

Housekeeping

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment at all times.
• Ensure aisles, picking areas, and storage zones are free of obstructions and hazards.
• Implement daily housekeeping schedules for staff and monitor compliance.
• Ensure proper disposal of waste and packaging materials in line with hygiene and safety standards.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and resolve potential risks or cleanliness issues.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and PPE are stored correctly and in good condition.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field (preferred)
• Experience in warehouse picking operations
• Supervisory or team-lead experience

Skills Requirements

• Strong supervisory and people-management skills
• Knowledge of WMS, Microsoft Office, and inventory control practices
• Good literacy and numerical ability
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• System-driven and process-oriented mindset
