The role is responsible for coordinating ramp activities, monitoring safety procedures, and ensuring on-time flight operations.
Job Description
The Ramp Agent plays a key role in maintaining safe and efficient ground operations while coordinating with various teams and service providers. Responsibilities include:
- Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, particularly those relating to Dangerous Goods.
- Maintain safety and security standards around aircraft on the ramp.
- Liaise between flight crew and ground handling teams to obtain passenger boarding clearance.
- Monitor the loading and offloading of baggage and cargo.
- Inform ground handling partners of any changes to aircraft load requirements.
- Support efficient aircraft turnaround times and help reduce operational delays by ensuring all handling agents and service providers are ready for arrivals.
- Conduct ramp safety audits when required.
- Ensure ramp vehicles are clean, properly maintained, and fueled.
- Provide transportation for crew members when required.
- Monitor flight operations to support on-time performance targets.
- Record and allocate delays when necessary.
- Assist with crew requests, including coordinating cleaning services, providing water, and managing restroom services.
- Ensure the presence of required service providers for each flight, including airport authorities and fuel handlers.
- Conduct ad hoc inspections within the baggage handling area.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the senior supervisor on duty.
- Arrange support for handling heavy or oversized cargo, including specialised equipment such as motorised wheelchairs.
- Ensure staffing levels meet service level agreement requirements.
- Conduct Foreign Object Debris (FOD) inspections to maintain ramp safety.
- Report any irregular activities related to flight operations.
- Assist in coordinating operations during disruptions.
- Monitor ramp and passenger service performance indicators, including boarding gate closure times and equipment positioning.
- Complete ramp documentation for each flight operation.
- Prepare incident and irregularity reports when required.
- Coordinate with multiple departments and airport stations.
- Work with relevant stakeholders to ensure aircraft depart on schedule.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an airline or aviation environment, including passenger services, ramp services, or baggage handling.
- Code 08 driver’s licence (Essential).
- Clean criminal record.
- Good understanding of airside operations and airport procedures.
- Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to multitask and delegate tasks when necessary.
- Computer literacy.
- Strong customer service orientation.
